Walking trails at Callander Estate Activity Centre & Cafe

Callendar Estate Activity Centre offers fantastic walking opportunities from short walks for all abilities to longer, more challenging walks. Unearth the fascinating history of the Estate including the events around the Battle of Falkirk Muir. Discover the wildlife that shares our natural environment like the rare pond med snail, found in only seven sites in Scotland. Or uncover our past mining heritage.

The estate is on the route of the John Muir Way, a coast to coast trail, from Helensburgh in the west, to John Muir’s hometown of Dunbar on Scotland’s east coast.

Heritage Trails

We have 5 way marked Heritage Trails that will take you on a journey of discovery and adventure. Click on each one for more information about the route and to see a map.

Battle of Falkirk Trail - Route 1 - to take you back to 17th January 1746 and leads you through some of the key moments of the battle.

Woodland Bird Trail - Route 2 - Discover the wildlife and share our natural environment including many species of woodland birds and experience the weird and wonderful life of a lowland raised bog.

Local History Trail - Route 3 - Unearth some fascinating facts about the local area from the Romans to the Second World War.

Industrial History Trail - Route 4 - The impact of past industrial activity has largely disappeared but you can still see some remnants of our industrial heritage today. 

Lionthorn Community Woodland Trail - Route 5 - Take a stroll through the Community Woodland at Lionthorn and find out about the trees and other wildlife right on our doorstep.

In addition to the way marked walking trails we have created 2 additional maps that you can download to help you navigate around the Estate. The Falkirk Battlefield Town Centre Walk suggests a quiet route you can take into the town centre past some interesting battlefield sites. The Milk Barn Walk provides an off road route between the main car park at Canada Wood and the Milk Barn and is a bike ride for the family with the benefit of an ice cream at the end.
