The industrial revolution transformed Falkirk in the latter half of the 18th century with the expansion of ironworks fuelling the demand for coal. New worker housing and factories created a need for locally supplied bricks, and the need to move goods to the markets led to the development of new transport links, such as the construction of the Union Canal and railway lines.

The impact of past industrial activity has largely disappeared but you can still see some remnants of all industrial heritages in the landscape today.

The Industrial History Trail is a relatively strenuous 4km walk on good paths. Why not stop off at The Milk Barn on your way round.
